| Preserve Profiles SWMLC welcomes the public to visit the following preserves. When visiting a preserve, please respect the natural features and keep the following guidelines in mind: do not remove or destroy plants or wildlife; take all trash with you; do not use motorized vehicles or bicycles; and camping, fires and pets are not allowed (leashed pets permitted only at Chipman Preserve). No hunting is allowed unless noted. Other preserves owned by SWMLC contain sensitive habitats or have access issues and are not open to the public unless permission is received from SWMLC. Bow in the Clouds Preserve. Although located within the Kalamazoo city limits, Bow in the Clouds Preserve has many wild corners... Coon Hollow Preserve. Gertrude McPharlin Bauer Nature Sanctuary. The property was the beloved natural area of former Barry County prosecuting attorney Max Bauer and his wife Millie... Jeptha Lake Fen. Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy acquired this preserve in an effort to protect the high quality wetlands found along the shores of Upper and Lower Jeptha Lakes... Carter Lake Preserve. Located on the northern shore of the lake that lends the preserve its name, Carter Lake Preserve is a wonderfully wild area just outside the city of Hastings... Hickory Creek Preserve. What was once a railroad bed and now power line corridor is a developing "greenway" trail that links other public open spaces to run from Lake Michigan along the St. Joseph River to Hickory Creek and beyond...
