Shake off those winter blues, the Warriors are taking a break from hibernation!

The Wednesday warriors and other volunteers have been collecting native plant seed on workdays over the past several years, and it’s stacking up at SWMLC headquarters! Super duper volunteer Jeff has infused new enthusiasm into our seed collecting work at SWMLC and has been hard at work making plans for seed collecting opportunities and organizing information for us. We’re excited to help him out and make big plans for this seed to go to “habitats in need” in the coming year.
Seed cleaning is a great activity to break up the winter months (is it still winter?). This coming Thursday, we will gather in the SWMLC stewardship barn to organize and clean native plant seed, using screens and other methods, for sowing into new habitats later this spring. So come on out with some hibernating Warrior comrades to clean coneflowers, Indian plantain, wild lupine and others!

WHEN: THURSDAY, March 2, 9 am – noon

WHERE: SWMLC Stewardship Barn, located behind the SWMLC office — just west of the Chipman Preserve entrance.

BRING: Gloves, and wear grubby clothes —it’s dusty work. SWMLC will provide instruction and a dust mask.

DIRECTIONS: The SWMLC office is at 8395 East Main St., 3 miles east of Sprinkle Rd. between 30th and 33rd Streets in Comstock Township (Galesburg). Pull into the “Chipman Office”entrance on the north side of the street (look for the big SWMLC sign), drive back through the gate and beyond the line of cedars to the staff parking lot. You will see the Stewardship pole barn at the end of the lot.
