Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy’s public preserves are free and open to the public from dawn to dusk. Each property is special and has its own unique features, whether that’s a spectacular show of spring wildflowers, amazingly good birding, miles of trails on which to run, or pristine Lake Michigan beaches. We encourage you to visit them all . . . again and again!
Limited Access Preserves
SWMLC also manages over 30 preserves that contain especially sensitive habitat or have accessibility challenges in reaching them. These limited access preserves may only be visited by appointment or special invitation.
Rules & Regs
For your safety and to help us protect our preserves’ natural features, please follow these general guidelines:
♦ Dogs are welcome at SWMLC’s public preserves but must be kept on a 6-foot leash at all times and their waste removed from the preserve. Ground-nesting birds are upset by loose dogs and may abandon their eggs and babies if disturbed. In addition, children, adults, and leashed dogs that are using the trails may feel threatened when approached by a loose dog. Thank you for helping to keep our nature preserves a safe haven for people and animals alike!
♦ Stay on trails
♦ Do not collect, remove, or destroy plants and wildlife
♦ Take your trash with you
♦ No motorized vehicles
♦ No bikes or horses due to erosion issues
♦ No camping or fires
♦ No fireworks
♦ No dumping
♦ Don’t bring alcohol or glass containers into the preserve
♦ No hunting or trapping without permission
