Before settlement times, Southwest Michigan was home to vast oak savannas and oak-hickory forests – and their legacy lives on in the gorgeous oak trees we find throughout this area. Not just beautiful, these iconic trees provide food and shelter for countless forms of wildlife and are the important foundation to many habitats. On this hike, we’ll learn the basics to identifying our native oak species, meet some of Wolf Tree’s magnificent namesake “wolf trees,” and explore the ecological and evolutionary features that make oaks such biodiversity hot spots.
♦ Dogs are typically welcome at SWMLC preserves, but we ask that you leave your furry friend at home for this guided nature event.
♦ So you can be prepared, there are no restrooms at this preserve.
