Give back to the planet that’s given everything to us, then celebrate our hard work at Old Dog Tavern with a complimentary pint on Great Lakes Brewing Company!

Saturday, April 21, 1 – 4 pm
Bow in the Clouds Preserve, Kalamazoo

Bow in the Clouds is truly “nature in the city” at its finest, and the potential to connect people with the natural world here is fantastic. So on Earth Day this year, come get connected with this vibrant land and help others to do the same! Supported by the generosity of Great Lakes Brewing Company, SWMLC volunteers will have an opportunity to work on a variety of tasks including tackling invasive shrubs that block the view, pulling garlic mustard, sprucing up the barn area, installing a gate, repairing wetland boardwalks, and picking up trash.

Following the workday, there will be an optional post-workday celebration at the Old Dog Tavern, sponsored by our Earth Day partners, Great Lakes Brewing Company! Staff from the company will provide interested participants with a voucher at the workday, which will be good for a Great Lakes beer at Old Dog.

Your participation is always appreciated, but space at this special workday is limited! You must RSVP for this special workday and we’ve only got a few spots left, so email conserveland@swmlc.org or call 269-324-1600 to make sure you get in on the Earth Day Workday Celebration!

SWMLC greatly appreciates partners like Great Lakes Brewing Company that enthusiastically support conservation and organizations like ours in their distribution area.

WHEN: Saturday, April 21, 1 – 4 pm. We will begin our workday at 1 pm so please try to give yourself enough time to find a spot to park and sign in prior to the start. We will split into groups and there will be a variety of tasks for everyone to work on. After the workday, participants may optionally meet up at Old Dog Tavern at 4:30 for a well-earned, complimentary beer.

WHERE: Bow in the Clouds Preserve, City of Kalamazoo. Meet at 1 pm, just beyond the parking area. See map and directions below.

BRING: Please dress for the weather in comfortable clothes that can be gotten wet and dirty. If possible, this should include boots, long pants, and work gloves. Those interested in helping with the wetland boardwalk should be sure to wear rubber boots. SWMLC will provide tools, maps, water, and snacks.

NOTE:  We do not have a restroom on site at Bow in the Clouds, so please “Go Before You Show!”

DIRECTIONS: Bow in the Clouds is on Nazareth Road (about one mile west of Sprinkle Road), behind Nazareth Campus (home of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 3427 Gull Rd.). From Gull Road, turn north onto Nazareth Road. The preserve entrance is about half a mile ahead on the left side of the road. Look for our old gray barn up off the road just after passing the guard rails.

Anyone is welcome to pitch in to help keep our preserves up to snuff. It’s a wonderful way to experience the preserves with the folks who know them best, plus get acquainted with other active people who share the conservation spirit.
