Know Your Ferns, Part 1
with special guest leader,
Dave Wendling,
Kalamazoo Area Wild Ones

Saturday, June 29, 2024
7 pm
Portman Nature Preserve

This is a beginner field trip for those that don’t know their ferns or for those who just want a refresher. We will cover the structure, reproduction, and identification of the ferns. You will learn how to key them out in the Fern Finder and get some hands-on experience using it in the field. By the end of the field trip you should be able to identify ferns on your own using the field guide.
This event is free and open to the public but registration is required. Click here to register.
Please note, attendance is limited to 15 people
What you will need:
♦   A copy of the Fern Finder by Hallowell and Hallowell, an inexpensive pocket field guide to the northeast ferns (available at this major online retailer – or shop around, many stores carry it).
♦   A hand magnifier will also be helpful. If you don’t have one, we will have some that you may borrow for the field trip. You may also use your smart phone magnification app.
♦   Be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring your favorite insect repellant.
Please . . .
Leave four-legged friends at home for this guided, nature study. Thank you!
