Ecological landscape designer (and owner of Dropseed Native Gardens & Ecological Restoration) Mike Weis will lead us on a walk through the oak savanna portion of the preserve. Following up on his January presentation (recording here) on oak savannas as a model for native gardens, Mike will point out the structure of these rare ecosystems and show us how to observe the unique sunlight niche conditions of oak savannas. The vertical layering of these ecosystems resemble conditions found in most yards. Mike will offer tips on how to read the landscape and how to translate it into design applications for your home native gardens.
