Natural Features
The eastern border of the preserve follows the Portage River, protecting a narrow band of varying quality uplands and broader area of floodplain forest. The understory of the upland area is largely disturbed though a small area has some spring ephemerals including Virginia bluebells. The floodplain forest contains large sycamores, silver maples and cottonwoods with a second story thick with spicebush. Cardinal flower is common in sunny patches of the floodplain. It is upstream from Hidden Marsh Sanctuary.
