Natural Features
Much of this preserve is poorly drained fallow fields that are undergoing extensive wetland restoration with support from the USEPA, MDNRE, Van Buren Conservation District, and Ducks Unlimited. There are two ponds that provide habitat for wood ducks, turtles, and amphibians. There are two woodlots that have an impressive diversity of mesic forest trees including sycamore, paw paw, swamp white oak, burr oak, and others. The understory of these woodlots contain a relatively rich herbaceous flora.
