Saturday Volunteer Workday
Black River Preserve
March 19, 2022
1 – 4 pm

Plant a future forest!

Help plant a future forest that wildlife will call home and where generations of people will go to find peace.

No special skills or strengths are required, just a willing attitude and a desire to give something back to the community.

Hope to see you there!

Registration
We encourage you to let us know in advance if you plan to come so we can be sure to have enough tools and snacks on hand. Please RSVP by filling out the form below or by calling the office at 269-324-1600.

But if you decide at the last minute to come and you haven’t registered, no worries! We would still love for you to join us – the more hands the lighter the work!

Bring

Please wear layers of weather appropriate clothing that you won’t mind getting dirty or slightly ripped, work gloves, sturdy boots, and a favorite cutting tool if you have one. Otherwise, SWMLC has loppers and hand saws – and will also provide hot beverages and snacks!

Kids are welcome to help!
Volunteering helps children learn valuable lessons about community and sharing (read an interesting article on the topic at Parents.com).

Please note:
♦  There are no restrooms at Black River Preserve.

♦  Though leashed dogs are welcome on the preserve, please leave your four-footed friends home for their safety on this workday.

Directions
From M-43: At the traffic circle at Maple Grove Corners, take CR-689 north to the T-stop at 8th Ave. Turn right (east) on 8th Ave, and look for the preserve on the south side. If you get to 68th St, you’ve gone too far.
From 196: Exit east onto Phoenix Rd. (exit #20). Take Phoenix Rd. about 1/2 mile to 71 1/2 St. Turn south onto 71 1/2 St. and go 1 mile to 8th Ave. Go east on 8th Ave, about 1 mile and look for the preserve entrance on the south side of the road.

Social Distancing and COVID restrictions

While SWMLC policies now allow us to gather again, volunteers are still required to adhere to current MDHHS guidelines, including:

staying home if you feel ill or are exhibiting any symptoms

providing name and phone number for contact tracing

minimizing the sharing of tools and equipment.

We’re excited to finally be working together again, but we want to make sure we’re all doing what we can to keep each other safe!

When filling out the registration form, please be sure to enter the name of the event (for example, “Workday at Black River.”)

Be sure to prove your humanity by solving the simple math equation at the end of the form.
