In celebration of our 35th anniversary, SWMLC is hosting a series of events showcasing the work we do. Join us for a special event showcasing how we restore habitat. We’ll try to meet some special part-time residents of the south tract William Erby Smith Preserve – grassland birds! Here for just a few months, these special species come from as far as Argentina to southwest Michigan to breed in open expanses of grassland and raise their young, before making the return flight again. You’ll learn more about the lives of these amazing but underappreciated birds, as well as SWMLC’s efforts to study and support them on its preserves. You’ll walk through a thriving prairie planted 10-20 years ago, as well as a new section of prairie being actively restored this year.

This guided walk will be led by SWMLC Outreach Coordinator Alice Dykstra and Conservation and Stewardship Director Mitch Lettow.

♦  Dogs are typically welcome at SWMLC preserves, but we ask that you leave your furry friend at home for this guided nature walk.
